Issues

George Eichhorn is the only candidate for Secretary of State who has experience overseeing the regulations of the Secretary of State's office and the Secretary of State's budget as the Chairman of two Iowa House of Representatives Committees.

He has been a leader on finding waste, fraud and abuse in state budgets and he will put those skills to work protecting taxpayers as Iowa's Secretary of State.

George is also the only Republican candidate with a proven 100% pro-life and pro-small business voting record from his time in the Legislature.  As our next Secretary of State, George will stand behind his principles.

AS SECRETARY OF STATE, GEORGE WILL:

I. Restore Common Sense Election Laws to Assure Fair and Honest Elections

Over the last ten years our laws have changed where they are ripe for fraud & abuse. Iowa needs common sense leadership to assure fair and honest elections.

The current national trend is election by litigation.    Iowa needs to prepare for potential election lawsuits.

Iowa also needs to close all loopholes in our elections laws and regulations that leave the door open for elections fraud.    With his experience in the Legislature and his legal background, George will work to get this done.

II. Reinstitute Task Force for Regulatory Reform to help
Create Jobs and Grow Iowa's Economy

In 1995, the Secretary of State was chair of a task force for small business regulatory reform. Iowa needs to reinstate that task force.

Regulatory reform should be structured to help get our state's economy moving and create jobs right here in Iowa.

George's four years as Chair of the Administrative Rules Review Committee makes him the ideal Secretary of State to start real regulatory reform.

All Republicans agree for a need regulatory reform and the legislative leadership has indicated an agreement to re-start the task force process - it is time to get it started.  As Secretary of State, George Eichhorn will get the job done.

III. Protect the Taxpayer & Eliminate Wasteful Spending

Iowans not only want fair elections, they want to know that the Iowa Secretary of State is spending their tax money fairly.

The United States Election Assistance Commission’s recent audit of Iowa's Secretary of State showed funds were misspent. Only after the audit was released was the public made aware. The current Secretary either ignored the problem or swept it under the rug for years - and as a result the taxpayers paid a price.

It should not take an auditor hired by the federal government to come in and find out Iowa’s funds were misspent. Iowans want to have trust in state officials.

Washington spending is out-of-control and that epidemic of fiscal mismanagement seems to have infected the Secretary of State’s office.  People are rejecting the Democrats free spending ways. Voters are looking for solid, conservative leadership they can trust.
